The Nike TN Air Max Plus, launched in 1998 as part of Nike's Air Max series, quickly became an iconic choice for sneakerheads, despite early prejudices. Designed by Sean McDowell with inspiration from Florida, it stands out with its aggressive aesthetic and unique shape, as well as the use of improved Air technology. With original colorways like Hyper Blue, Orange Tiger, and Shark Grey, it remains a popular favorite among sneakerheads worldwide.
In 1998, Nike embarked on a new chapter with their Air Max model and unveiled the innovative 'Nike TN Air Max Plus'. A silhouette destined to become an iconic part of the Swoosh brand's catalog, but before it could succeed, the model had to overcome a number of prejudices. The Nike Air Max Plus was created in light of the collaboration with Foot Locker , and appeared like a UFO in the sneaker world at the time. Also known by the nicknames 'TN' or 'Requin', the model quickly became popular in Australia, where it quickly became an icon on the street scene. In contrast to the positive feedback in Australia, the Nike TN was quickly negatively labeled in France as a pair of 'city shoes' - fast forward to today, it is one of the most popular Nike shoes for men, also in France.
The TN is the result of a collaboration between Nike and Foot Locker (the two companies share the patent) and was designed by Sean McDowell in 1997. The designer, who had just joined Nike, was inspired by a trip to Florida. The aggressive shape and unique aesthetic are taken directly from the Florida landscape, and the mesh upper and TPU details are created in parallel with the movements of the palms.
The three original colorways that were released in 1998: Hyper Blue, Orange Tiger and Shark Grey, have today become a must-have for many Sneakerheads when it comes to the Nike TN Air Max Plus.
Dear child has many names, and in this context it is no exception. But although it is called both Air Max Plus, TN and Requin, this 90s silhouette is actually just one - and not several different models. It's all a question of the group of people who are talking about the shoe, as they may have a different impression of the model - or have developed a unique geographical slang for the shoe.
The Nike Air Max Plus is known for its aggressive, outward-facing look, and the sharp lines on the upper, reminiscent of the Nike Air Max , which give an impression of movement and speed at first glance. Similarly, the discreet, but to a certain extent iconic mini-Swoosh, which has been on the TN since its first release, is also reused. If you think the sneaker is getting a little too wild, you can also buy Nike TN shoes in Black.
Although its popular little sister, the Air Max 95, doesn't come close to the Nike TN in terms of upper, the sole is an obvious common denominator for the two, with the AIR technology being featured in the name. Just like the other models released before the Nike TN Air Max Plus, the AM95 uses the same cushioning technology at the front of the silhouette - while the Plus model stands out with the new Tuned Air technology used at the back.
